  3. The number of interpretive centres is a real sign of disconnect between people and their government. Literally no one likes them aside from the local authority officials who develop them.

  4. I miss the old days when you could visit these attractions without having to pay through the nose for the privilege. I remember going on school trips to Newgrange and the only sign of commercialisation was a handbarrow out the front selling cheap Celtic jewelry.

    I know there’s a lot more people visiting at any one time these days and they need to be managed to avoid damage to the site, but it’s getting ridiculous. Spend millions building an ‘Interpretive Centre’ that no-one asked for then charge an arm and a leg to recoup the costs for something that no-one wants.

    They’ll have toll gates on the Ring of Kerry and turnstiles on the way up Croagh Patrick soon, you watch.
